Political Positions

(06.06.2023)

Let’s Do It! World is a global civic movement with a mission to connect and empower all the people and organizations around the world aiming to make this planet clean and healthy. Let’s Do It World NGO, organizes the World Cleanup Day on each third Saturday of September in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and have been engaged more than 75 million people from 197 countries worldwide. Let’s Do It! World tackles environmental and social problems related to illegally dumped solid waste by mobilizing millions of positive-minded, action-oriented people and using innovative technological solutions to deal with waste issues around the world.

By focusing on these detailed political positions with the support of mass movements, civil society, and education, we can facilitate significant change towards reducing plastic consumption, holding manufacturers accountable, and promoting a sustainable future.

  1. Implement rigorous environmental regulations for a clean, waste-free world:

Encourage mass movements and civil society to participate actively in lobbying for stricter environmental regulations. This includes both laws to reduce pollution and waste, and initiatives to promote sustainability and the circular economy.

  1. Enhance global awareness and education on sustainable resource management:

Channel resources towards global education and awareness campaigns focusing on the importance of sustainable resource management. These efforts should be integrated into educational systems and supported by civil society movements to reach a wider audience and promote change on a larger scale.

  1. Foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders for a sustainable circular economy:

Advocacy should be made for cross-sector collaborations involving government, businesses, civil society groups, and scientific institutions to develop a sustainable circular economy. Education and awareness on the importance of such collaborations should be part of the public discourse to encourage more active participation.

  1. Curtail plastic consumption:

Drive mass movements and campaigns to drastically reduce the production, consumption, and emissions of all synthetic plastics, including bio-based plastics and those labeled as biodegradable. There should be no substitution with single-use items made from other materials. Encourage the role of civil society in spreading awareness and pushing for these changes.

  1. Assign accountability to manufacturers and distributors:

Mandate the application of the polluter pays principle across the entire value chain by introducing and enforcing a stronger extended producer responsibility for all plastic products and packaging. Civil society organizations should play a key role in pressuring companies to take responsibility for the lifecycle of their products.

  1. Demand transparency and heighten awareness:

Promote educational initiatives and transparency in information sharing about the risks of plastics and their constituents to humans, the environment, and climate. Strategies to mitigate these risks should be a part of this information drive. Civil society can play a pivotal role in raising awareness and ensuring information is disseminated widely and effectively.

  1. Advocate for a global agreement to tackle the plastic crisis:

The European Union should actively promote a binding global legal framework under international law to address the plastic problem along the entire lifecycle of plastic. The Union should support the achievement of internationally set goals. Mass movements and civil society organizations can play a critical role in advocating for this on a global stage.
