On September 20, 2025, Ukraine traditionally joined World Cleanup Day — the largest environmental initiative in the world, which annually unites over 114 million participants across 211 countries.The initiative is aimed at fostering a culture of cleanliness, careful attitude toward the environment, responsible consumption, and proper waste management.
“On September 20, as Ukraine serves as the international hub for World Cleanup Day, every piece of litter collected, every community that comes together, every voice raised for environmental justice declares: the human spirit is unbreakable. Nature knows no borders—just like our responsibility to protect it and our power to unite in its defense,” — Heidi Solba, President and CEO of Let’s Do It World.
In 2025, the international contact and media center of the global event was hosted in Ukraine. This decision carried several strategic goals:
- to draw the attention of the global community to urgent environmental challenges;
- to demonstrate resilience and the commitment to environmental restoration;
- to embody international solidarity, which is the foundation of the World Cleanup Day movement.
The international team of Let’s Do It World organized a live broadcast connecting all participating countries directly from Kyiv. Speakers of the international studio included:
- Heidi Solba — President and CEO of Let’s Do It World, World Cleanup Day
- Julia Markhel — National Coordinator of World Cleanup Day in Ukraine, leader of the Let’s do it Ukraine movement
- Anneli Kolk — Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Estonia to Ukraine
- Michael Capponi — President & Founder Global Empowerment Mission
- Serhii Vlasenko — former Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine
More than 100 volunteers also worked in the studio, helping to moderate the international event.
A special highlight of the day was the performance of Ukrainian and Estonian stars: Tom Soda, Kamaliya, Diana Gloster, and Birgid Täht.
Thus, the Ukrainian location transformed the cleanup campaign into a powerful statement about environmental justice, international cooperation, and the human right to a clean and safe environment.
The All-Ukrainian Youth Movement “Let’s do it Ukraine” invites citizens of Ukraine — both at home and abroad — to join and register their participation results by September 27 at letsdoitukraine.org/2025/08/ldu-rejesruj-rezultat-2025. Every completed form brings Ukraine closer to even higher positions in the global ranking of environmental responsibility among 211 participating countries. Your contribution matters!

«In Ukraine, ecocide is taking place: destroyed and damaged ecosystems during the war directly affect people’s lives and health, as well as the quality of air, water, and food. The environment knows no borders, and its preservation depends on each of us. Every action matters — from waste sorting to conscious consumption. Even in times of war, we are obliged to care for nature and contribute to its recovery. Join World Cleanup Day today — for yourself and for future generations. Let’s make Ukraine clean together!», — Julia Markhel, National Coordinator of World Cleanup Day in Ukraine.
Today, Ukraine and Ukrainians abroad took part in the traditional cleanup events — tidying up yards, parks, and streets, sorting waste, while frontline regions conducted individual and digital cleanups. As of 7:00 PM, over 123,000 participants at nearly 4,000 locations had cleared areas, sorted garbage, and registered the results of their work.
The Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Ukraine joined the World Cleanup Day: the diplomatic team cleaned Latvian Square in the Pecherskyi district of Kyiv.
We emphasize that all participants worked exclusively at approved locations and received safety instructions before the cleanup began. The cleanup was carried out only with gloves and sturdy bags to ensure that garbage collection was safe and convenient.
